Tropical Getaway

Been back to school for a week.. First question asked by everyone you met in uni was 'how was holiday?' so, here it is some food posts from my holiday to cairns.. I went to Cairns for 5 days.. It was a very quick getaway but nonetheless it was a very fun holiday with my friends! First meal we had in Cairns was grilled baramundi with prawn satay, they were served with salad as well to neutralize the fishy thingy. As expected, Cairns' seafood was nice. It was very fresh and yummy. What makes it better was that it was on special price for only $ 11.95. I highly recommend this! You can find this at Ala Turka Restaurant, around Esplanade, Cairns. Here's the look

Then we chose Golden Boat Chinese Restaurant to dine in, it is very popular in Cairns and it is recommended by our friends who had been to Cairns before, furthermore the review was 9/10 that's why we decided to give it a try. We ordered prawn stir fried in XO sauce, stir fried veggies, pork belly with sweet sauce, salt and pepper fried squid and steamed fish with wine and xo sauce. They all turned out to be very very delicious! The taste stuck in our tongue and we just really satisfied though the price was expensive. It was really worth your bucks. Here's a capture of the very yummy Chinese dishes

Moving to the next day, we had free bbq from the tour we assigned to, too bad did not get the shot for the juicy steak. At night, with a very big appetite we went to Ochre, which is very well known in Cairns for the steak (again?!). Well, we did not come to Ochre to eat beef steak or lamb or pork, but wallaby, kangaroo and crocodile. I decided to order slow roasted wallaby that night, then my friends chose variety of meat. Some of them who are as curious as me ordered kangaroo steak and crocodile. While some who were not brave enough chose pork belly and crab ravioli. All food was great except my wallaby which turned up to be left on my plates. It was really chewy and dry. Overall, I recommend Ochre since it is unique and every meal was nice (according to my friends) except my chewy wallaby.

On the next day, we went snorkeling in Green Island, The Great Barrier Reef. It was very magnificent. The clear sky, clear blue sea and beautiful fishes, you name it. Me and my friends was very excited to go down to the sea that we forgot to have our lunch. We did not regret it at all, we bought some snack to save us from the hunger. Finally, dinner time! We decided to have our dinner at La Fettucina that night since we want something carbo and fat to spoil the starved tummy. I ordered fettucine ala marinara with creamy sauce. Not much to say, it was amazing! All tummies simply satisfied

Well, I guess it's time to go. Will posts the rest, soon! Keep updated and just hold your saliva :P

BlackBird Cafe Darling Harbour

Black Bird Cafe, it isnt much of a dine in restaurant but more of a party like environment for pre food and drinks before heading to clubs of Sydney. Which is exactly the reason we went. The food wasn't excellent for the price we paid even with the copious amounts of alcohol it still dented the wallet for the beginning of the night.

Red Spoon Castle Hill

Went to Red Spoon Castle hill for lunch last week. Red Spoon is a thai restaurant in the middle of Castle towers piazza in Castle hill. It is only a few years old and since its openings has become one of the most popular restaurant in that piazza area and its not a surprise why. Upon walking in the dark lighting and colours within the restaurant sets the mood perfectly.

The restaurant you can see is highly organised in the way they sit you down and server you. I order a regular my usual in nearly all Thai restaurants is a pad-thai. After not a long wait it came out beautiful and tasted just the same. I highly recommend this restaurant, if you live within the hills area or surrounding suburbs.

The Century

The Century is a new Chinese restaurant located at The Star Sydney. It has great food and excellent service and the views are also quite enjoyable. The food was delicious and enjoyable. Also, it did not take long for the food to come out and the price is also reasonable. Many of us enjoyed this restaurant and I believe it will be recognised as on of the best Chinese restaurants for years to come. Here are some photos enjoy!

Machiavelli's Restaurant Sydney

I also went to Machiavelli's not along ago and the food was quite expensive but the atmosphere of the restaurant was quite nice as it felt you were eating in an authentic Italian restaurant. The food was not overly complicated and to saucy it was quite simple but delicious and cooked to perfection. It is located in the heart of Sydney's CBD in Clarence st. Here are some photos of Machiavelli's !

Nick's Seafood Restaurant

Went to Nick's Seafood Restaurant with a few friends and it proved to have some delicious food and lived up to expectations. They had a great menu offering a wide range of seafood in different ways. Although it was a bit pricey I highly recommend it.

It has a great location in Darling Harbor with great views and a lovely atmosphere which makes it more enjoyable. Here are some images from Nick's Seafood:

Crinitis Darling Harbour

Went to Crinitis the other day with a few friends. We went to the one in Darling Harbour had an amazing locations with a stunning view over the harbour and city.

We started of with my Crinitis Style bruschetta. Although i never really like bruschetta purely for the fact everything falls off it! but for these i will always make an exceptions. They had a beautiful mix of flavours and so many to choose from.  We ended up getting a mix of all of them.
Crinitis is known for its meter long pizza and with a group of six of us we thought it would be a perfect for us. For one the meter long pizza is actually a meter long !! Who would have thought ? We where allowed the choice of three different toppings we got Carne Amour, Francesco Criniti, Minchia.  All three toppings were great and although we finished the entire pizza it was more then enough to fill us up and not want a desert.

We where also told it probably wouldn't be enough for six so we got a burger as-well. (i know not very italian). As described from my friend, one of the juiciest burgers he has ever eaten and wit
h a special spicy Crinitis sauce for the chips and burger it was great.

Overall This place was great from food to service and location. A very minor negative was that its so popular there is a lot of noise and and not much space on the table for such big servings ! But i would recommend it to anyway looking for great italian food. As-well in so many different locations over Sydney.

One Fine Afternoon Tea

How was Mid break guys? Travelling anywhere? Well, if you're not. You can try having afternoon tea with your friends, to catch up and to talk everything you have missed during the busy period of uni. I did catch up with my girls and we chose to have this afternoon tea just like the royals. Sydney has some places to sip a cup of royal tea, but we decided to have it at The Tea Room in the city. It was a nice place with a touch of European classics, the interior was made to build up the royal ambience as well as the table was set to met royal expectations. Right after you entered the room, you will feel as you were in a British Kingdom.

Table Set
Then the waiter and waitress will show up with a tux and offer you choices of main menu and the afternoon tea set package.  I ordered a set of traditional afternoon tea, and I chose Earl Grey for the tea. When it came, I was very excited because it served with a very classic and sweet floral tiers suits all the plates and cups on the table. Oh I felt like having a real royal afternoon tea! Not to forget, the traditional afternoon tea has their sweets treat on the first tier such as chocolate cake, lemon muffin and fruit tart, then came to the second tier, the salty part, it has egg sandwich, tuna sandwich and the garlic crackers. Then finally the last tier came with a macaroon, a lemon meringue tart and a passion fruit biscuit. They're all mouth watering, arent they? But trust me, they don't taste as good as they look.

4 sets combined in 2 Tiers
Enjoying Earl Grey
It's not worth it when it comes to the taste, but it's worth a try. The ambience, the good feeling of having royal afternoon tea, the time to catch up with friends. Well, to sum up, I would definitely recommend you to give it a try, but to my self I won't go back there because once is enough. After all, one fine afternoon tea with my finest ladies :)
